Jack Dorsey vs Elon Musk

Jack Dorsey, one of the co-founders of Twitter, made the first statements about Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company. Speaking about Elon Musk laying off half of the company, former CEO Dorsey apologized for allowing Twitter to grow too quickly.

Elon Musk, who bought Twitter after a $44 billion deal, fired the most important names of the board as the first job. It was also alleged that Twitter would fire half of its employees. Former CEO and founder Jack Dorsey, who left his post at Twitter in May, spoke about this situation.

“People on Twitter, past and present, are strong and resilient. No matter how difficult the moment, they will always find a way. I realize that many of them are angry with me. It’s my responsibility for everyone to be in this situation. I grew the size of the company very quickly. I apologize for that,” he said.

Although the reason for Elon Musk’s dismissal of company employees is different, it must be admitted that Twitter is growing very quickly. The platform, which went public in 2013, had approximately 2,000 employees. At the beginning of 2022, this figure was more than 7,500. In other words, the number of employees has tripled in less than 10 years.

Musk, on the other hand, said he had no other choice about the layoffs. “With the company losing over $4 million a day, unfortunately, there is no other option. Everyone who left was offered 3-month severance pay, which is 50 percent more than what is legally required,” he said.

Jack Dorsey started Twitter in 2006 with Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams. He left the CEO position last year. Parag Agrawal, who was appointed as the manager of the company, was dismissed after Musk’s acquisition.
